D103 Parent Education: Dr. Devorah Heitner

October 15 @ 7:00 pm - 8:15 pm

In a virtual presentation, Devorah Heitner will discuss with parents how to navigate the world of technology during the COVID19 pandemic

About this Event

Among the many stresses associated with this pandemic, parents have struggled with the amount of time their children are spending on technology due to quarantining, e-learning, and limitations on in-person activities with their peers.

Dr. Devorah Heitner, author of Screenwise: Helping Kids Thrive (and Survive ) in Their Digital World, will walk parents through a better understanding of how to help their children find a healthy balance with technology during this time when COVID19 has everyone reaching for their devices more than ever. As an expert on young people’s relationship with digital media and technology, Dr. Heitner will teach parents how to coach their child’s technology use rather than control it.

Dr. Heitner will help review with parents which digital platforms and apps are appropriate for elementary & middle schools students (and which are not!) She will discuss how children can use technology to support friendships during these stressful times.

Dr. Heitner’s mission is to cultivate a culture of empathy and social-emotional literacy. As a sought after speaker and columnist, Her work has been published in many respected publications including the New York Times, Washington Post, and Time magazine.

We are excited to welcome Devorah Heitner to speak to our families about this important topic during an unprecedented time from the comfort of their own homes.
